Saplings Parent & Toddler Group

The Outdoors Project Saplings clubs

Saplings is our fun, nature inspired activity group for pre-school children and their parents. If your child is active, interested in nature and loves playing in the great outdoors then this is for them!

Your child will learn, play and create with sensory activities inspired by nature, including bug hunts, mud painting, natural art. They will be introduced to the changing seasons, a range of wildlife, they will forage, make things to take home.

Who? Sessions are suitable for children aged 18 months (or younger if they are able to walk) up to 4 years old (pre-school). Parents must stay with their child too. Younger siblings (babies who can not walk) can come along free of charge.

When? Sessions usually last around 1 hour. Bookings are made for a whole term, however we can sometimes offer one-off trial sessions, and we accept late-comers joining part-way through the term if there are still spaces (we would just charge you for the remaining weeks of the term).

Where? A green space near you! Click 'book saplings' to see where exactly in each park Saplings is held.

What should they wear? Dress for the outdoors & the weather! A sun hat, airy clothing & sun cream if it's hot & sunny. Waterproofs, outdoor shoes & layers if it's colder, raining or muddy. We sometimes use temporary shelters/gazebos but also love to play in puddles...!

What the parents say:

"My 19month old daughter attends Saplings with the outdoors project and she adores it. Whenever we go to the same park that the group is held at, she yells the leader's name hoping he may be there ready to start a group. It has been such a lovely thing for her to be able to do having been a true lock down baby with no groups to go to until very recently. Thank you so much"

"This playful outdoor education has such a wonderful rhythm and has kept my child engaged and curious about his relationship with the more than human world. The leader is great with all the saplings and his passion for his work really shines through and enthuses everyone. We're sad not to be returning for the weekly sessions again as my child will be starting school but we'll definitely be signing up for some of the after school clubs and holiday clubs. Big gratitude to The Outdoors Project and a BIG thank you to the leader for being himself wholeheartedly"

"My little one was unsure at first, he is just 3 and lockdown really affected his confidence. A few weeks in and he loves it. The leader is absolutely wonderful with the kids and makes the sessions really accessible and enjoyable for little ones and parents alike. we love our Thursdays!"

"We've been to 2 Saplings sessions in Worthing so far and our little girl has had loads of fun. Joe is brilliant and the sessions are really well planned. She comes home so proud of the things she has made, and ready for a long nap after all the running around!"

"Loving Saplings class with Hayden in Brighton! He is so fun and engaging with the children. And adults too! My three year old absolutely loves every class. She can't wait to go each week & find out what exciting activity we are going to do. Thanks Outdoors Project!"

"My 2 year old daughter and I have loved going to our weekly saplings class. Hayden is so engaging and the little ones adore him. The classes have a lovely pace and routine each week with repeated games (so my daughter knows what to expect) and then great messy play opportunities. Thank you!"

"Interactive for a range of ages and even some fun learning for parents! Nice slow pace but also structured with clear well planned activities"

All the staff are fantastic and really build kids confidence to explore, have fun and be kids.

Absolutely brilliant. Inventive, creative and energetic sessions

This is one of best holiday clubs, full of fun and there's always something exciting learn. My son has been going for the past 2 years, he simply loves attending every time!

The range of activities are brilliant and never fail to engage my child.

Another epic day. 3 years of attending outdoors project and my son still thinks it’s the best thing ever.

My children absolutely love going to The Outdoors Project. I feel assured that they are in safe hands and that they are getting their fill of fun out in the fresh air.

Fantastic club run by enthusiastic people who genuinely care about the children. Always fun and geared around the children rain or shine!

My daughter was full of beans and bursting with lovely stories when I collected her.

My daughter has asked whether she can attend the after school club until she leaves this school

My daughter was beaming after an amazing day outdoors making new friends and learning awesome new skills.  The staff were enthusiastic and encouraging.  She couldn't wait to go back the following day!
